First, let me begin by saying thank you to James Corden for speaking on behalf of those of us who are called fat. A few weeks ago, Bill Maher host of the HBO talk show “Real Time with Bill Maher” had the audacity to say fat shaming needs to make a comeback. Though, anyone who is considered fat in the United States would agree that fat-shaming never left.
James Corden host of “The Late Late Show with James Corden”, which airs on CBS used his platform to respond to Bill Maher’s childish rant. James expressed how he has been overweight since childhood and that if fat-shaming worked there would not be any overweight children.
Bill Maher said one thing in his rant that made sense and that was him sharing The New York Times article “Our Food Is Killing Too Many of Us” that says, “Poor diet is the leading cause of mortality in the United States.” That is a fact. However, note it used the word “Poor diet” and not the word “Fat”.

When it comes to the health issue in this country there needs to be accountability beginning on the political level to clean up this mess. Because all categories of people in this country are suffering due to the Standard American Diet (SAD). Skinny folks are suffering from diseases and dropping just as quickly as overweight people.
So, due to that fact I took offense at what Bill Maher said. It’s as though he overlooked the fact that better food choices should be a theme for everyone and not just one group of people. Because then it is bullying. I used to smoke cigarettes and smoking jokes, or folks talking about how harmful or nasty smoking was for me didn’t stop me from smoking. Me choosing to live is what made me make that change.
It seems like bullying is normal in this country. But I stand and say Bill Maher should use his political connections and celebrity platform to make a legislative change to stop using high fructose corn syrup, GMO corn and GMO soy in our food products, also to stop using dangerous herbicides and pesticides on our produce. That alone will assist in getting us back to a more wholesome diet. Because health knows no size and there are some fat people that are healthier than some skinny people.
