When you hear the word “fats,” you might immediately think that these are bad or unhealthy. However, this is not true. While excessive consumption of some fats can lead to serious health problems, like diabetes, your body needs healthy fats to reduce the chances of serious illness and to function properly.
Fish
Eating fish is one of the easiest ways to consume a good amount of healthy fats. This is because certain types of fish are very high in healthy fats, and you can eat fish as a full meal. Oilier fishes such as tuna, salmon, and sardines are high in omega-3s. Omega-3 fats are good for your heart, brain, and other parts of your body and health. Luckily, these oilier fishes are quite mainstream, so it is easy to order them at a restaurant, find them in your local grocery store, or prepare them from a can. You can eat fish either as a full meal, in a spread, or in a side dish. If you don’t particularly like the taste of fish, try incorporating small amounts of it into other dishes or using strong seasoning to mask the taste.
Avocados
Avocados are a great source of healthy fats because they contain monounsaturated fats instead of polyunsaturated or monounsaturated fats. Saturated fats are less healthy for your body and can clog arteries if consumed excessively. Conversely, the monounsaturated fat in avocados can improve cardiovascular health. Avocados also have a great, creamy, mild taste that goes with a lot of different meals or snacks. Avocados are perfect to put on salads or sandwiches. There are also a lot more creative ways you can use avocados to make healthier snacks like puddings, smoothies, or brownies.
Nuts
Nuts are another great source of healthy fats. Good nuts to eat for healthy fats include walnuts, tree nuts, and peanuts. In addition to being a great source of healthy fats, nuts are also very filling and are a great snack. Before going to school, work, running errands, hiking, or doing whatever else throughout your day, you can easily pack up a bag of nuts or trail mix for a snack. Additionally, you can add nuts to salads, noodle or meat dishes, breakfast bowls, or desserts for extra nutrients.
Your body needs healthy fats to have enough energy and stay healthy. Replacing fast foods and heavily processed snacks with fresher ingredients will help you replace unhealthy fats with good ones. Your body will learn to love the taste of healthy fats and feel much better as well.
